One of the most desirable attributes of an appealing smile is a set of healthy, white teeth. However, staining due to tobacco use, drinking certain types of beverages (including tea, wine, and coffee), or the natural process of aging may make you feel self-conscious about your smile. Fortunately, our cosmetic dentist can dramatically enhance the aesthetics of your smile quickly and effectively with our teeth whitening options. At our practices, we offer Zoom® in-office and at-home teeth whitening to lighten your smile with as little tooth sensitivity as possible.

Causes of Teeth Staining
Natural Teeth Whitening vs. Professional Teeth Whitening
Many whitening products are available from your local pharmacy, but patients should be careful about which products they use and purchase. Some techniques, particularly “natural” teeth-whitening options like charcoal and coconut oil teeth pulling, can have unintended side effects and have not been evaluated for efficacy and safety. It’s important to understand that charcoal is very abrasive and can cause damage to the teeth. These DIY teeth whitening methods are not currently recommended by the American Dental Association. In contrast, over-the-counter whitening toothpastes and strips can often safely provide results over time; however, they are simply a much weaker version of the whitening agents used in dental offices. Professional teeth whitening has proven to be the safest and most effective method of instantaneously brightening teeth. For more information on which whitening techniques are best for your needs and goals, please talk to our friendly and knowledgeable team.

Teeth Whitening FAQ
Zoom® Tooth Whitening System
To help maintain the results of your treatment, we offer the “Whitening for Life” program. Occasional “touch-ups” can help extend the length of your outcome further. Talk to us about your goals and we will help you find the ideal solution for a beautiful, healthy smile that lasts for life.
Dental sensitivity can be a serious concern for many people, and teeth whitening may increase this sensitivity in some individuals. We want to limit this effect and ensure you have the most comfortable whitening experience possible. In addition to using shields to protect your gums and oral tissues, the whitening gel we use is designed to reduce sensitivity during and after treatment.
We can also offer tips and tricks on addressing sensitivity in your daily life, from lifestyle and diet adjustments to helpful products that can relieve discomfort. If you are bothered by tooth sensitivity, the following tips may help you cope:
- Use oral hygiene products formulated to limit sensitivity, such as Sensodyne® toothpastes and rinses
- Switch to a soft-bristled toothbrush or reduce the force used to brush your teeth
- Avoid very hot or very cold food and drink
- Decrease how often you whiten your teeth
- Use a mouth or night guard to limit teeth grinding
- Do not consume highly acidic food or drink
The length of time your teeth can remain bright and white depends on how well you care for them and whether your diet includes staining foods and drinks. Coffee, tea, and soda can dull your smile, as can berries and some other types of foods. Smoking will also cause yellowing. If you take great care of your teeth, your results should last about six months, potentially more. Occasional touch-up treatment can keep your smile looking its best year round. We offer a “Whitening for Life” program that will allow you to refresh your smile regularly for a one-time additional fee. More details below.
Once you have had your teeth whitened, chances are you would like to maintain them. We offer a “Whitening for Life” program for those who are diligent with maintaining their oral health and white smile. For a small one time fee of $100 we will make custom upper and lower molds for you and you will receive a syringe of whitening gel at two dental hygiene appointments in a year to help keep your teeth looking their whitest for life!
Contact us for more details or ask your dental hygienists as some conditions apply.
Teeth whitening at our practice with the Zoom® whitening system typically costs approximately $399 for an in-office treatment and $100 for our take-home kits.
